I don’t know why people I encounter tend to think that because I’m West Indian – and maybe more so now with the dreads – I must have a history of smoking weed. I honestly never have, just no interest. But it did tickle me this morning to hear on NPR that US Attorney General Eric Holder, roots strongly planted in Barbados, is the face of the new administration’s take on policing marijuana use in states which allow it for medical purposes. The issue apparently is that it is federally disallowed. Therefore, even though a state like say, California, may have establishments were people can light up to their heart’s content (…well, within certain parameters), the feds could randomly raid them, since it’s still against federal law. Holder say dat dem done wid dat! The reasoning they present is that funds could be better spent on matters of higher priority. If you ask me, look like Bablyon system gettin infiltrate! Gi dem de weed an leh dem meditate!
